ROCKFORD Luella M. Vodden, 90 of Rockford, Ill., and formerly of Kirkland, died Friday, March 27, 2009, at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford.
She was born April 24, 1918, in Hinckley, the daughter of Martin and Marie (Leifheit) Rissman. Luella was the seventh of 13 children. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 29, 1931. Luella married Merrill L. Govig on Sept. 3, 1943. He was killed in the service in September 1944, during World War II. She married George H. Vodden Jr. in Hinckley on Dec. 9, 1949. He passed away Dec. 14, 1961.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara (Scott) Johnson of Rockford; one son, George H. (Jill) Vodden III of Kirkland; one sister, Adella Mae Colby of DeKalb; one brother, Michael (Rosemary) Rissman of Hinckley; and adopted grandchildren, Dustin and Logan Damiani.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; an infant daughter, Ruth, in February 1955; and brothers and a sister.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 1, at First Lutheran Church, 510 W. South Street in Kirkland, with the Rev. Carl L.M. Rasmussen officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery near Hinckley. A visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Quiram-Sycamore Funeral Chapel, 1245 Somonauk St., Sycamore, IL 60178.
