R.T. "Red" Godley, 94, of Jekyll Island died Wednesday at Forum Healthcare in Brunswick.

Mr. Godley, born in Camden County, was a lifelong resident of Glynn County. He worked for Glynn Ice and Coal Co. and Hercules Inc. for several years and retired from Brunswick Pulp and Paper after 40 years of service.

He lived on Jekyll Island for 40 years and was appointed honorary mayor of Jekyll Island by Judge Hartley. Mr. Godley was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and the Moose Lodge.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Tex Woods officiating.

Interment followed in Brunswick Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Sam Strickland, George Strickland, Toby Strickland, Everett Clark, Melvin Clark and Roy McDowell.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Godley of Brunswick; two sons, Richard E. Godley and Clyde H. Godley, both of Brunswick; a sister, Ethel Clark of Brunswick; a brother, J.T. Godley of Brunswick; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
