Chubby was our family companion for almost 22 human years, passing away one month shy of that remarkable date. He lived his early years outside Front Royal, Warren County, Virginia and later moved with the family to Williamsport, Washington County, Maryland. When he died, we removed the roof to his outside shelter and placed him on it. He was then placed in the back of my dad's old Jeep for the trip to Granny's house. As there was no room in the front for me, I spent the hour-long ride in the back by his side. He was buried beneath an old pear tree behind my grandmother's house in Sandy Hook, Washington County, Maryland.
