He was born to Riley and Verna (Martin) Calkins in The Dalles, Ore. He attended Portland Bible College. He served in the Army and also worked as a salesman, mining prospector and independent minister. Mr. Calkins enjoyed dancing, prospecting, traveling, RVing, snow birding, snow skiing, fishing, hunting, boating and golfing. He was a member of Elks Lodge and New Hope Church in Portland, Ore.
He is survived by one son, three daughters, three brothers, one sister, eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews
