Lori A. (Brandon) Cox, 47, of Herrin, entered into the Heavenly Kingdom at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her loving husband, children and family.
Lori owned and operated Work Safe Testing in Herrin.
She was a member of the Southern Illinois Worship Center in Herrin.
Lori was born January 29, 1967 in Herrin, IL to Danny C. and Linda C. (Murray) Brandon.
Lori was united in marriage with John L. Cox IV on February 25, 2006 in Herrin, IL.
Surviving are her husband, John L. Cox of Herrin; three children, Danielle Donai (Matthew) Cox of Colorado Springs, CO, Brandon Joseph (Jill) Vaughn of Carterville, IL, Macartney Rea of Herrin; step daughter, Kaitlyn Cox of West Frankfort; her grandchildren, whom she affectionately called her Sunshine's and who called her "Gaga", Cameron, Hannah, Mabry Jo and Chandler; mother and step father, Linda Brandon Walker and Lindell "Corky" Walker of the Lake of Egypt; brother, Danny Joe Brandon of the Lake of Egypt; step-sister, Elizabeth (Blaine) Brunkhorst of Cape Girardeau, MO; step-brothers, Jim (Cindy) Walker of Anna, Tod Walker of Irving, TX and Robert Walker of Newnan, GA; several nieces and nephews.
Lori is also survived by her mother-in-law, Rosalie (Jeff) Rounds of Herrin; father-in-law, John L. (Diane) Cox III of Marion; sister-in-law, Pam Borders of Cambria; aunts, Erma Bateman of Herrin, Deloris (Gary) Hamilton of Herrin, Lorene Armstrong of Marion; uncles, Loren Ray (Evelyn) Brandon of St. Charles, MO, Leon Brandon of Arizona; several cousins including, Bob Bateman of Herrin, Lora Lee Scharnhorst of Missouri, her extended family and friends whom she thought of as family.
She was preceded in death by her father, Danny C. Brandon; grandson, Samuel Paul Cox; maternal grandparents, Edward L. Murray, Cathryn and Joe Kilgore; paternal grandparents, William and Stella Brandon; uncles, Bob Bateman, Bill Brandon and an aunt, Zella Faro.
Lori was someone, to everyone. She was a wife, daughter, mother, Gaga, sister, friend, and Sunshine. She was loved, and she loved. She served others joyfully. She was courageous. She exuberated sunshine. She lived her life in a way that made others search for the kind of sunshine they saw in her. Lori knew the way to true sunshine, her Lord and Savior, and she wanted others to know that joy too. She loved passionately, fought courageously, and when it was her time to meet the Lord, she passed peacefully with a smile on her face.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 6, 2014 at the Southern Illinois Worship Center, 124 Lou Ann Drive, Herrin, IL 62948 with Rev. Jason McKinnies and Rev. Ralph Brandon officiating. Interment will be in Herrin City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014 at the Southern Illinois Worship Center in Herrin.The family requests that if you would, join them in wearing yellow, in honor of their Sunshine whom will be laid to rest.
Memorial donations are suggested and may be made to Hannah's jar for the American Cancer Society and Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the Southern Illinois Worship Center Building Fund, to help with funding for the Youth and Children's Wing; envelopes will be available at the church.
