JOHN WILBER HISTED
BELFAST – John Wilber Histed, 77, of the East River Road died Monday, May 25, 1992, in his home after a brief illness.
Born June 28, 1914, in Belfast, he was a son of Bertie R. and Leah Gage Histed. On March 29, 1947, in Belfast, he married the former Beryl E. Brillhardt, who died October 15, 1987.
A lifelong resident of Belfast, Mr. Histed was a graduate of Belfast High School and veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in the European Theater.
He had owned and operated a dairy farm in the town of Belfast for several years and for many years was a milk tester in the area for the DHIA. He also was caretaker and board member of Riverside Cemetery in Belfast, retiring in 1991.
Mr. Histed was a member of the Belfast United Methodist Church. He was a 40 year member of the Belfast Fire Department and served with its fire police.
Surviving are a son, John P. Histed of Goodlettsville, Tennessee; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Linda L.) Reed of Tennessee and Ms. Marie E. Emery of Lima; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Histed of Caneadea; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Mrs. Ernst (Idell) Barringer and Mrs. Russell (Alice) Redman; and a brother, Harold Histed.
Friends called at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Belfast, Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral and committal services were held Friday, May 29, 1992, at 2 p.m. in the Belfast United Methodist Church, with the Rev. James A. Reichert, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Belfast Fire Department, Belfast Rescue Squad or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
