Shirley Jean Gardner Few, born in Kenosha, Wis., on September 15, 1926, passed away on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 11, 2014, with her daughters (Pennee Ann McCoy, Patricia "Trish" Carol Aamoth, and Elizabeth "Betty" Jo Gaston) and three grandchildren by her side.
Mrs. Few attended Whitewater State Teachers College, in Wisconsin, then later moved to Miami, Fla. and became a radio operator for National Airlines. She married Joseph Carroll Few on April 6, 1948. They relocated to Jacksonville, Fla., and later, Atlanta, with their three daughters. After retiring in 1979, she and her husband left the Atlanta area and resided in Apalachee, Athens, Statham, and Roswell. Shirley and Joe traveled extensively to all 50 states as well as overseas.
Mrs. Few was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Joseph Carroll Few; her parents, Cecil Wayne and Ella Buchanan Gardner; and her brother, Wayne Cecil Gardner.
Survivors include her daughters, Pennee Ann Few McCoy, of Draper, Utah, Patricia Carol Few (Daniel J.) Aamoth, of Watkinsville, and Elizabeth Jo Few Gaston, of Roswell; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Dorothy Whitman Few, of Columbia, S.C.; and five nephews.
Memorial services will be held on at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 17, in the chapel at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church, with Pastor Art Wilder officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
Roswell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
