Death of John S. Smyth
John Stephens Smyth, a life time resident of Marion, was found dead in his chair Tuesday afternoon about 5:20 at the C.A. Cline home, where he has been cared for several years. A paralytic stroke is believe to have caused his death. Mr. Smyth was terribly afflicted from birth, being so crippled that for many years he has been unable to leave the house. His speech was affected and he was deaf, so it was difficult for him to visit with anyone. But he had a keen mind and was a great reader, and well posted on historic facts, as well as topics of the day. He made quite a study of palmistry, which brought many visitors who wished to learn their future fortune. Mr. Smyth was born January 23, 1961, in Marion. He is survived by three brothers, David of Wyoming, Jay J. of Minneapolis and Robert who left here about two years ago.
The funeral was held this afternoon at the Cline home the Rev. A.H. Hanscom officiating. Burial was in Oak Shade cemetery.
