Johann Christoph Kapp was the son of Johann Michael Kapp and Maria Margaretha Frey. Johann Christoph was a farmer and blacksmith who accumulated considerable wealth and extensive landholdings on which he built a stone colonial- style mansion. He was a Revolutionary War veteran and lived in Harrisburg, PA where he was a Councilman.

He was married to Anna Catherina Spittler in Lancaster County and they had 4 children. The eldest son, Jacob Capp (b: January 9, 1765 d: March 16, 1826) became a prosperous merchant and large landholder in Jonestown, Pa. Several of his descendents were doctors, attorneys, state legislators, bankers, and professors. The most distinguished was John Charles Capp (b:June 26,1800 d:1876) who was a Philadelphia banker and the dean of the Philadelphia Stock Exchange
