Theresa Rosina Hoffmann was born in 1828 in Allstedt-Wolferstedt, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, then in the Allstedt exclave of the Grand Duchy of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, the child of Friedrich Christoph Hoffmann. She married Carl Wilhelm Gotthard (William) Borneman(n) about 1851, in Allstedt. They had one child, a son, during their marriage. The family emigrated from Bremen aboard the "Weser", arriving at Castle Garden, New York City, on 25 Jul 1868. The family immediately relocated to Monroe, Michigan, where she and her husband resided until 1876, when they moved to Elkhart, Indiana, to join their son, Herman, who had previously relocated there. She died on August 1, 1881, in Elkhart, Indiana, at the age of 53.
