Herald of Truth , Vol. XXX, No. 7, April 1, 1893, Elkhart, Indiana (Rev.):
On the 1st of April, 1893, at the residence of her son-in-law, Herman F. Borneman, Sr., 311 N. Main St., Elkhart, Ind., after long months of suffering from rheumatism, sister Elizabeth Frey, widow of Bro. Jacob Wagner, deceased, aged 74 years, 5 months and 21 days. She was born in Berwangen, Grand Dukedom of Baden, Germany; was married in 1840 to Jacob Wagner. They lived in matrimony 32 years. Their union was blessed with 13 children, of whom five survive her. Bro. Wagner died 21 years ago. In 1878 sister Wagner came to America with four of her children, and settled in Elkhart, where she spent the last years of her life with her children. She united with the Mennonite church in her youth and was faithful to her vows until death. During her three years of sickness her sufferings were sometimes terrible, and finally she became quite helpless. She often longed for death and had a great desire to depart and be with Christ which is far better. Besides her five children she leaves 20 grandchildren to mourn their loss. Her remains were laid to rest in Grace Lawn cemetery on the 3d. Funeral services by J.F. Funk, from Phil. 1:23.
