Dorothy Lurleene Owen, 91 of Brevard, went to be with the Lord Saturday June 7, 2014 at her home.
She was born in Oconee County, South Carolina and she was the daughter of the late Melton Lusk and Viola Sloan Lusk.
She spent most of her life in Transylvania County as a loving mother, wife, grandmother, and great-
grandmother. She loved spending time with her family, especially cooking for them. She loved working
in her flowers and was a long-time member of Cherryfield Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by Bill Owen, her husband of 66 years, her son Harold Owen, brothers, Leon Lusk and Morris Crowe, and sister, Vivian Sprouse.
Survivors include her three sons, Terry Owen and wife Kathy of Roaring Gap, NC, Wayne Owen and wife
Lois of Cherryville, NC, and Steve Owen and wife Martha of Brevard, her brother Jimmy Crowe of Brevard, and sisters, Mable Wolf of Oregon and Emma Jane Lewis and husband Larry of South Carolina.
She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Karen Floyd and husband Chris of Indiana, Susan Campbell of Indiana, Teresa Snipes and husband Sean of Waxhaw, NC, Julie Hinson and husband Chris of Texas, Amy Gibby of Lincolnton, NC, Nathan Owen and wife Melissa of Boiling Springs, NC, Jeremy Owen and wife Abbey of Brevard, Emily Robinson and husband Dusty of Brevard, Brett Winkle and husband Jeremy of Indiana, and Kelsey Owen of Indiana; 15 great-grandchildren Alex and Conner Floyd of Indiana, Josh Haley and wife Jamie of Indiana, J.D. Haley and wife Kayla of Indiana, and Kaitlyn Campbell of Indiana, Celia and Evie Snipes of Waxhaw, Emma Kate and LyIa Hinson of Texas, Reese and Jada Gibby of
Lincolnton, NC, Gus and Simon Robinson of Brevard, and Sara and Miley Owen of Boiling Springs, NC.
Memorial services will be held at Cherryfield Church Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Gene Gilliam and Rev. Tommy Pressler officiating. The family will receive friends and family from 1 to 2 pm prior to the services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cherryfield Baptist Church picnic shed fund, 2070 Whitmire Rd, Brevard, NC 28712.
