Mr. and Mrs. H.C. Williams of near Maitland Observed Anniversary Sept. 11-

H.C. Williams and wife celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at their home five miles south of Maitland, MO, on Monday, Sept. 11, 1933. Mrs. Claude Williams and Mrs. Leonard Landreth planned a surprise on them by going in on them with well-filled baskets with all the good things they could contrive for a wedding dinner, and the surprise was great and so was the dinner.

Mr. Williams was 83 years old the 20th of last March, and Mrs. Williams was 81 the 26th of last March. They have lied at their present home for 55 years. They have three sons: Albert of Colorado Springs, CO; Mont of Cameron, MO, and Claude of Oregon, MO.

Just before the dinner was ready, this dear old couple went through another wedding ceremony. This time with a lady minister, Mrs. Leonard Landreth, sister of the bride. Just as the clock was striking twelve, this dear old mother leaning on the arm of her husband and smiling sweetly, marched from the front living room and was met by the minister who told them to join their right hands. Then in very impressive tones they were married the second time, something like this:
-By the old constitution law, I marry this Indian to this squaw, Up the hill and down the level, Salute your bride you ugly ____. ( A prize is offered for the missing word.)

The bride was lovely in a blue and white print and she wore a long wedding veil which had done duty many years as a window drape. She carried a large bouquet of yellow sunflowers. The groom wore the conventional blue denim overalls and shirt.

Those who were fortunate enough to be there were Mr. and Mrs. Claude Williams and son, Elwood, Mrs. Bertha Lenz, Lum Patterson, Charlie Patterson, Jim Patterson, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Landreth.

During these sixty years, there has not been a death in the family of either children or grandchildren."
