MH Raymond "Ray" Armstrong

November 6, 1925 ~ April 29, 2014

MH Raymond "Ray" Armstrong passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, WA. Raymond was born on November 6, 1925, in Flagstaff, AZ, to Whit Armstrong and Rossie Elizabeth Clift Armstrong. When he was just six years old, Raymond's father died of pneumonia. For a time, his mother took Ray and his two older brothers to stay with family in Arkansas. They then moved to Prescott, AZ, where Ray spent most of his youth. When WWII broke out, Ray dropped out of his senior year to enlist in the Navy. He served on the USS Haskell, a troop transport vessel, as a radio operator. He saw action throughout the Pacific. After Ray returned home, he met Dorothy, who was working in his brother's laundry shop. He loved to tell everyone he met about how they met and about her "Pretty Blue Eyes." Dorothy was the true joy and love of his life. They were married for 66 years. Together, Ray and Dorothy made their first home in Bellflower, CA, where they raised their three children, Connie, Dan and Cliff. Ray served his apprenticeship as an electrician with the Santa Fe Railroad. He worked as an electrician for Cassidy Electric until he started his own business, Armstrong Electric. After many years of vacationing in Wenatchee with Ray's favorite aunt and uncle, Herb and Dean Clift, he and Dorothy made the move to Wenatchee. There, they built a small cherry orchard, while Ray worked toward retirement with Apple City Electric. Ray and Dorothy were active members of Calvary Baptist Church in Bellflower, CA and First Baptist Church in Wenatchee. Ray took great pride in his wife, his family, his faith and his work.

Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Louise House Armstrong; parents; and brothers, Arlin and Brannon. Ray is survived by his children, Connie (Ray) Shelters, Maple Valley, WA; Dan Armstrong, Wenatchee, WA; Cliff Armstrong, La Habra, CA; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, 1:00 p.m., at the Wenatchee Cemetery, Wenatchee, WA. You are invited to visit his online tribute at www.HeritageMemorialChapel.com. Arrangements are in the care of Heritage Memorial Chapel, EastWenatchee.
