Suggested edit: Mervin "Merv" Amsden was born in Springfield, Minnesota on July 2, 1936, to the late Dennie and Edith (Hagerman) Amsden. He was baptized at a young age at Lake Shetek and received his education in the Comfrey Public Schools; graduating in the Class of 1954. Merv then went onto Mankato State University where he first received his teaching degree in Business then his MBA in Business and English.
Merv's first teaching experience was as a student teacher in 1960 at the Butterfield Public Schools. He went on to teach in Iowa and then to Alexandria Vo-Tech and Anoka Vo-Tech before retiring. Merv then moved home to Comfrey to take care of his mother and did substitute teaching in area public schools. After his mother's death, Merv became a full-time teacher in 2000 at the Butterfield Public Schools as a high school English teacher. He loved his work as a mentor and teacher but due to the diagnosis of brain tumor, he regretfully retired in 2005. He fought the disease courageously until passing away on Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at the age of 71.
Merv was a dedicated educator who loved not only his work but his students. Besides his job, he also found much enjoyment in reading and writing.
Merv is preceded in death by his parents; two brother-in-laws, John Miller and Donald Carter; and one great-grandnephew, Ty Carter.
