Donald Arthur Blanchard, age 61, of Laporte, MN died Monday, December 19, 2005 at his home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Hendrickson Township, Hubbard County, Minnesota under the direction of the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home.
Honorary bearers will be Dave Wolf, Lyle Engel, Palmer Emblom, Dale Buness, Pat McCarthy and Delano Bunker. Casket bearers will be Jeff Blanchard, Brandon Blanchard, Bill Blanchard, David Olson, Steve Blanchard and Tim Rognstad.
Donald Arthur Blanchard was born April 6, 1944 in Bemidji to Clifford and Elizabeth (Emblom) Blanchard. He attended school in Laporte. Donald worked on the Iron Range for a time before returning to Laporte.
He married Kathryn Wolf on October 30, 1965, in Bemidji. They moved to St. Paul in 1965 where he worked for Peerless Welders, designing and fabricating cranes for American Hoist. They returned to Laporte in 1984 where he began woods work, cutting firewood. He also worked for Northwoods Log Homes. He enjoyed fishing and working in his garage. He especially loved being in the outdoors. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Laporte.
Donald is survived by his wife, Kathryn Blanchard, Laporte; two sons, Brian Blanchard, Laporte, and Bradley Blanchard, Coon Rapids, MN; four brothers: Orlan (Gloria) Blanchard, Laporte, Kenneth (Gladys) Blanchard, Detroit Lakes, MN, Leroy (Marlyce) Blanchard, Leonard, MN and Bruce (Linda) Blanchard, Laporte; two sisters: Carole Johnson, Bemidji, and Bonnie Paine, Hibbing, MN; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Harlan and Maynard.
