Edward Robert Alonso, 63, of Lake Wildwood in Varna, Ill., passed away at 3 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013, at St. Margaret's Spring Valley Hospital in Spring Valley.

He was born on Jan. 14, 1950, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Edward John and Joyce Johnson Alonso. He married Michele Denys on Feb. 7, 1970, in Chicago, Ill. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Joyce, and step-father, James of Lacon, Ill.; one daughter, Vickie (Brian) Bijak of Homewood, Ill.; three sons, Edward (Amy) Alonso of Schererville, Ind., Jeffery Alonso of Varna, Ill., and David (Sarah) Alonso of Lansing, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Eddie, Aidan, Ryan, Gavin and Jade Alonso and Sabrena, Fernando and Madison Bijak; brother, Daniel Alonso of Magnolia; and sister, Kathie (Jeno) Varadi of Princeton. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

Edward had worked at Interlake Steel and Cyclone Fence in Chicago, Ill. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Chillicothe Sportsman's Club and the Walter Guede American Legion Post 593.

Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
