Albert Bernt Almendinger Jr., 75, of Tenstrike died November 13, 2003 at his residence in Hagali Township.

He was born February 8, 1928 on the family farm in Hagali Township to Albert Bernt Sr. and Jane (Madison) Almendinger. He grew up there and graduated from high school in Bemidji. He entered into the Navy in 1945. He was later honorably discharged with a medical disability.

He married Loretta Bucklin. They were later divorced. In 1976, he married Delores (Christianson) Swenning and they have lived in Hagali Township until the present time.

He worked at many jobs. He worked for the State of Minnesota Division of Forestry for 17 years. He purchased milk trucks and did contract hauling of milk from dairy farms to the Land-O-Lakes plant in Fosston. He sold Watkins products, loved gardening, and raised vegetables for sale in the North Country Farmers Market in Bemidji in the summer. He sold Christmas trees and made wreaths and specialty items for Boy Scouts and Special Olympics groups for sale. He also was licensed and made maple syrup to sell in the surrounding area.

He had been a Boy Scout leader and had two boys who made Eagle Scout under his leadership in Loman. He was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Blackduck and served on the church council and committees for all the years of Our TAALC. He took pride in the church family and in helping in any way possible, and helped with the building of the new church in Blackduck. He also loved hunting and fishing and any outdoor activity.

He is survived by his wife, Delores of Tenstrike; three children, Kathleen Almendinger of Hastings, Jeraldine (Richard) Schmidt of Cohasset, and James A (Mary) Almendinger of Cass Lake; three stepchildren, Bennett (Joy) Swenning of Prattville, Alabama, Linda (Richard) Dreher of Mizpah, and Roger Swenning of Louisa, Kentucky; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; five brothers, Charles (Phyllis) Almendinger of Tenstrike, James (Gail) Almendinger of Dumas, Texas, Leonard Almendinger of Tenstrike, Willis (Kathy) Almendinger of Oak Grove, and Russell (Judy) Almendinger of Stacy; two sisters, Charlotte (Robert) Giles of Eagan, and Cheryl (Gary) Lindgren of Cambridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Gordon Almendinger, and one grandson, Michael Dreher.
