Cleo Hay Sanders, well known merchant and planter of Fairfax, died yesterday shortly after noon at the Baptist Hospital where he was a patient. He was 41 years of age.
The remains have been shipped to Fairfax for interment. Mr Sanders is survived by a widow and several children. He was a successful merchant and planter and was prominent in the affairs of his community.

Fairfax, April 14 - Cleo Hays Sanders died Thursday night at the Baptist Hospital in Columbia after an illness of some several weeks. This beloved man was in his 40th year. He leaves a wife, Mrs Anna Sanders, and five children, one boy and four little girls; also his mother [sister], Mrs Cammie Jenness, and four brothers, George Audrey Sanders, W B Sanders of Fairfax, B B and J C Sanders of Florida.
Mr Sanders possessed the element of an impressive character, inspiring regard, trust and admiration. Equally beautiful was his love of all his kindred and of all his friends. Family, relatives and outsiders loved him.
Recovering gradually from an illness which had lately almost unnerved him, he had begun to cherish the day when he would return to his home.
The body was interred in the city cemetery [Fairfax], the Rev White and Prof J C Chitty officiating.
His mother was omitted and his sister was named his mother.
