Fern (Sonny) was the son of Fern and Lois Brown Galloway and the husband of Janie Hock Galloway. He graduated from Port Neches (Texas) High School in 1955 and served two years (1957-1959) in the U.S. Navy and later worked at Texaco Chemical in Port Arthur, retiring after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He married Janie Hock in 1963 and they had two daughters, Lisa and Michelle.
