"Junior" was the second child and only son of Ernest and Flossie Garrett's seven children. At the age of 7, he was killed by a car while he crossed the street in front of his home without looking both ways. He was anxious to meet his father coming home from work, hoping Ernest had bought him some new clothes. According to the newspaper, his was the 7th automobile fatality in Shreveport that year.
