Doris Elizabeth Hendricks McFerrin, 88, joined her beloved husband, Clayton, in heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 4, 2014. Mr. and Mrs. McFerrin celebrated 65 years of marriage before his passing in 2010. The McFerrin's lived for 33 years on a small farm in Keithville, Louisiana. After rearing her children, Mrs. McFerrin returned to nursing school completing her training as a Licensed Practical Nurse. In addition, she later became a Certified Respiratory Therapist. She retired from Schumpert Medical Center, spending her entire career as a Respiratory Therapist. In 1988, Doris and Clayton retired to Bethany, Texas and joined the Bethany United Methodist Church where they were blessed with wonderful fellowship as well as many friends. In addition, Doris spent many happy years as a member of the Lickskillet Sewing Circle. Mr. and Mrs. McFerrin moved to Marshall, Texas in 2007 to be closer to their youngest daughter. Mrs. McFerrin was born in Shreveport, LA to Eric and Jessie Hendricks on May 1, 1925. She is survived by her children, Mrs. Sue Richards of Bedford, KY, Steven McFerrin of Newark, CA, William McFerrin and wife, Melanie of Stephenville, TX and Barbara Scott and husband, Clifford of Marshall, TX. Grandchildren surviving Mrs. McFerrin are: Pamela McFerrin, Rachel and Sarah McFerrin, April Dwiggins, Bethany Dean, and Jackson Morris. Mrs. McFerrin also had seven great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Mrs. McFerrin is also survived by her brother, Pat Hendricks of Shreveport, LA, and two sisters, Marion Harris of Moore, OK, and Thelma Grace Atwood of Pearland, TX. In addition to her husband, Mrs. McFerrin was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Wendy Richards Albert and great-grandson, John Merideth. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday March 7, 2014 at Rose-Neath's Southside Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Clint Lovell. Interment will follow in Forest Park West Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the funeral home.
