Dewane “Bud” Mesner was born May 12, 1933, the son of Erwin and Frieda (Tesch) Mesner, in Paullina, Iowa. He was raised and educated in Germantown, Iowa, attending St. John’'s Lutheran School. He was confirmed at St. John’'s Lutheran Church on May 25, 1947.

Bud married Marjorie Ebel on Jan. 14, 1951, at St. John’'s Lutheran Church in Germantown. The couple was blessed with four sons.

He worked for Miller Grocery in Germantown until 1964. The family moved to Lake Park, where Bud worked for Ahrenstorff Transfer until 1976, after which he went into business as P & M Transfer. He formed a partnership with his son, Russell, as Northwest Transfer.

Bud was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Lake Park, Iowa, where he served as treasurer and trustee. Upon retirement, he enjoyed fishing, taking care of his horses and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bud passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, S.D., at 74 years of age.

He is survived by his wife, three sons, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Randall, and a brother, Darwin. Turner Funeral Homes was in charge of arrangements.
