Herman G. Spitznas, 83, of 2825 30th Ave., Rock Island, died at 7 yesterday morning in St. Anthony's Hospital, following a nine-year illness.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 tomorrow afternoon in the Knox-Larson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Henry Warkentin, pastor of Central Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island.
Friends may call after noon today at the funeral home. Masonic Rites will be held at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home by Eureka Lodge No. 69, AF & AM, Milan.
Mr. Spitznas was born Nov., 20, 1883, in Geneseo, Ill., a son of Herman F. and Anna Schmale Spitznas. He received his education in Rock Island public schools, and had been a resident of Rock Island nearly his entire life.
He had formerly operated a dairy farm at 3308 24th St., Rock Island, retiring in 1959.
He married Lillie Mae Long June 30, 1909 in Rock Island. She died Feb. 29, 1916. He later married Emma T. Nelson Nov. 27, 1917 in Rock Island. She died Feb. 25, 1959.
He was a member of Eureka Lodge No. 69, AF & AM, Milan, and was a former road commissioner for South Rock Island Township.
Surviving are a son, Richard H. Spitznas of Harvey, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Albert J. Schaefer of Rock Island; three grandchildren; a brother, Raymond Spitznas, and a sister, Mrs. Helene Moeller, both of Moline. He was also preceded in death by a son.
