When Kate died, her widowed and childless first cousin, Mary Jane (Talley) French, with whom she was close, moved into George's home to care for the three children. After almost four years with this arrangement, George and Mary Jane were married in Los Angeles on 31 Jan 1903. Their marriage lasted for 25 years until Mary Jane's death.
