Dr. Smith originally enlisted as an Assistant Surgeon with the 4th Delaware Volunteer Infantry on May 28, 1862 in Yorktown, VA. On October 8, 1864, he was promoted to Full Surgeon on the death of the regiment's surgeon, D.S. Hopkins. The first sentence of his bio is also wrong. Linton was promoted to surgeon on October 8, 1864, not assistant surgeon. He was commissioned assistant surgeon in 1863. The last paragraph of the current text has the correct information for Linton's appointment to surgeon.

He joined the 4th Delaware as assistant surgeon on May 28, 1863, not in 1862, as currently stated in his listing. This is shown on the official CMSR card from the National Archives and in his obituary, both now posted. Also, no official record, his tombstone, his death certificate, his enlistment papers, nor even his detailed obituary, shows a middle initial. Unless you have some other record , I suggest deleting the "T." in his name.
