Elizabeth was a long time member of Albright United Methodist Church, which was reorganized in 1988, emerging as New Hope United Methodist, where she belonged. Elizabeth was extremely active in her church, serving for years as part of the Hospitality Committee offering Wednesday evening meals at the church, the Ministry to People with Disabilities, and the Young at Heart group, to name a few. In honor of her 90th birthday, the Elizabeth Abel Food Pantry was established through the generous donations of family and friends. The Pantry was dedicated in 2009. Outside of her New Hope home, Elizabeth enjoyed her fitness group at the Elkhart YMCA for over 40 years. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and Purdue Extension Homemaker's Club. Visitation for Elizabeth will be two hours prior to the 1:00 pm service Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Jim Mobus will preside and burial will follow in Carlton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Elizabeth Abel Food Pantry in care of New Hope United Methodist Church.
