The funeral service for David Adams will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Marion Church of Christ, 5296 65th Ave. S.E., Rochester, with Pastor Rick Walston officiating. Burial will be in Marion Cemetery in Rochester, with military graveside rites by the Rochester VFW Post #1215.
Mr. Adams, 89, of Rochester, died Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Samaritan Bethany Home on Eighth in Rochester.
David Edward Adams was born July 22, 1924, in Rochester, and lived his entire life in Rochester. He was the son of Walter and Ardella (Richardson) Adams. He graduated from
Rochester High School in 1943. Right after graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served on the destroyer U.S.S. Porterfield during World War 11 in the Pacific. On Oct. 16, 1947 he married Leone Martha McCaleb of Marion. Together they raised three children.
Dave was a clerk in the Rochester Post Office, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Hope Summit Christian Church. He also volunteered at Crossroads College for many years, and at Golden Living Center East escorting patients.
He enjoyed spending time with family, fishing on Little Jesse Lake, gardening, helping at the church and coffee with friends.
He is survived by his two daughters, 7 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and a sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Leona, son,Ken, an infant son and brother, Duke.
