Walter P. "Salty" Hammond, Sr., 70, of West Terre Haute died at 8:18 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, in Heritage House of Clinton. He was born Sept. 13, 1934, in Terre Haute to Walter Edward Hammond and Mary Lillian Mershon Hammond. His wife, Myrtle Adeline Stultz Hammond, preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons, Walter and David; one brother Robert; three sisters, Isabelle, Betty and Bea; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services are 2:30 p.m. (1:30 p.m. CST) Tuesday in New Providence Cemetery in Illinois, with the Rev. Chris Wilbur officiating. Fitzpatrick Pearce Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
