Joe Bert was born in Miami, Florida on February 1, 1927. He entered the Navy early in his life and proudly defended his country. He was a WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Era veteran. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, six Air Medals, seventeen ribbons, a Presidential Citation, Korean Presidential Citation, ten APCM's and a Purple Heart. He retired in 1963 as Supervisor of Quality Control-Gemini Complex, at Cape Canaveral. He received a BS from Rollins College.
He met the love of his life while both were serving their country and he and Jacqueline (Jackie) were married 55 years. He was a loving family man who always placed others first. He offered back to his community and his church in various roles and will be remembered for his giving nature.
Joe Bert is survived by his wife Jacqueline Mae Knox, and his three loving children; Susanne Jones, Phillip Knox, and Dr. Peter Knox, and his daughter-in-law Mary Knox. Grandchildren are Justin Jones, Jordan Jones, Nicholas Bertani, Tyler Knox, Sydney Knox, Kenda Knox, Morgan Ragland and great-grandson Riley Jones.
A memorial service will be held at St. Catherine's Church in Orange Park, FL, on Friday July 23, 2010 at 11:00 am.
