Known as "Sam" or "Shocky" to his friends, he was the son of William W and Annie Z Hartmire. He served our country in Italy during WWII, and in Korea and Vietnam. He also took part in operations in the Middle East during his military career of over twenty years. He was twice married, first to Virginia Neil and then Almeda Shetrom. He was the father of three children to his first wife.
