My great-great-great-grandfather Henry Kagey (1792 - 1887) was born in Shenandoah County VA or adjacent Rockingham County VA, son of Rudolph Kagey (1768 - 1828) and Eve Roof (born 1765-1770; died 1795-1797). In 1817 Henry married Catharine Fitzgerald (1798 - 1845) also of Shenandoah or Rockingham; her parents unknown. In the early 1830s Henry and Catharine moved with their children to a farm near Luray in Union Township, Licking County, Ohio along side the National Road. The names of Henry and Catharine are engraved on opposite sides of the same monument at Licking Baptist Cemetery out in the country north of Hebron. The Kagey family was Swiss in origin and lived in Lancaster County Pennsylvania before moving to the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and then later to Central Ohio. All branches of the family are recorded in Franklin Keagy, "A History of the Kagy Relationship in America, 1715 - 1900" (1899). That book contains a picture of Henry on page 379. - Michael Kagay
