Marguerite "Daisy" Bartell, 79, of Rock Island died Friday, June 28, 2002, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Wendt Funeral Home, Moline. Burial will follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Sunday.

Marguerite was born Feb. 15, 1923, in Cairo, Egypt. She was the first of nine children born to Elias and Lucie Boulos. She held many jobs in Cairo, including teaching French.

In 1948 she borded the SS Mohamed Ali El Kebir from Alexandria, Egypt, and moved to the United States. After a brief marriage to Jay Arnold and residing in both Arkansas and South Dakota, she moved to Moline.

Marguerite married Glen A. Bartell June 5, 1959, and they had lived in the home they built together since 1965.

Mrs. Bartell worked at the Rock Island Arsenal for 32 years, beginning in 1957, and received many awards, recognitions and promotions during her career.

After her retirement, she stayed very active with the Arsenal 15-Year Club, volunteering for the Senior Citizens, playing euchre at Friendship Circle, and enjoying the area casino boats.

Her joys of life included gardening, cooking, bingo, knitting and traveling. Her most important role in life, however, was mothering and caring for her extensive network of family and friends all over the world. She held a very close relationship with her locally residing sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Warren Burdick, Moline, and their children.

She is survived by her husband, Glen; her "miracle child," daughter Darlene and her husband, Trent Singleton, Rock Island; sisters and their families, Rose Ananian and Odette Wazir, both of Egypt, Mary Burdick, Moline, Georgette Bazerghi, Canada, and Raymonde Mourad, Brazil; brother, John Boulos, Canada; as well as many other relatives all over the world.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and her parents.

Marguerite was called "Daisy" by her family because that is the French translation of her name. A "Daisy" also means someone of first-rate quality, and that is how she will be remembered: for the vibrant, full and generous life she led.
