Arthur Blair Cate
Aug. 11, 1927 — June 19, 2014

Arthur Blair Cate was born on Aug. 11, 1927, in Porterville, Calif., to Walter and Dora Cate, and passed away at home in Placerville on June 19, 2014. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Lida Mae Cate; son, David Walter Cate (Nancy); daughter, Gayl Ruth Fitzgerald (Steve); nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Art served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He earned his master's degree from San Jose State University and, thereafter, began his career as an educator in 1951. At various times he was a teacher, counselor, Dean of Boys, Vice Principal, Principal and Superintendent. He retired in 1985 after 14 years as Superintendent of the El Dorado High School District.

Over the years, Mr. Cate was active in various organizations: West Sacramento Rotary, Williams Kiwanis Club, Placerville Kiwanis Club, Brentwood Masonic Lodge, Association of California School Administrators and San Jose State University Alumni. He traveled the world with Lida and made friends in many places. But those dearest to him were those he met through his work in education, his service in the community and his family.

Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life service on Friday, June 27, at 3 p.m., at El Dorado County Federated Church, 1031 Thompson Way in Placerville.
