Baptized April 4, 1647 in Leiden, The Netherlands. Records show that his father Jean was there, but no mother was given. He was an only child, and it's possible that his mother died in childbirth. His parents Jean and Mary (Pieter) Fortineux were married on May 25, 1646 in Leiden, The Netherlands. Jonas died between 1702 and 1709, while residing in Otterberg, Germany.

According to the Fortineux-Fortinet Family in America book, he was not in Otterberg for the 1665 tax, but he and his family were there for the 1674 tax. They were in Charlottenburg, Prussia, for the 1689 tax and returned to Otterberg for the 1695 tax.

He married Sara Menton ca. 1674. A previous source stated that Sara was born circa 1647. New info has her being baptized in Leiden on May 24, 1650. She died December 12, 1715 in Otterberg. She was the daughter of Jacob and Judith Louys Menton.

The marriage of Jonas Fortineux and Sara Menton, and the births of their children, are in the records of the French Reformed Church, Otterberg. Their children were:

Jean Henry, b. April 2, 1675 in Otterberg.
Jonas, b. September 11, 1677 in Otterberg.
Jean David, b. March 27, 1681 in Otterberg.
Marie Judith, b. February 28, 1683 in Otterberg.
Marie Rosine, b. April 5, 1685 in Otterberg.
Jean Jacob, b. October 17, 1690 in Holzappel.

Info from the Big Blue Book, with additional information and corrections from Bruce Furtney, and from church records in The Netherlands, including those found on the fortineux.org website.
