BELFAST – Mrs. Thelma L. Keeler, 88, of 17 Chestnut Street, Belfast, died Friday, November 1, 1991, at Cuba Skilled Nursing Facility following a lengthy illness.
She was born on October 21, 1903, at Podonque, a daughter of John and Lena Powell Crawford. On April 28, 1922, in Rushford, she married Robert H. Keeler Sr., who died December 2, 1960.
She was a resident of the Olean-Belfast area most of her life and attended the Houghton school system. With her husband, she was owner-operator of Keeler’s Bakery in Houghton. They later moved the bakery to Belfast and Wellsville. For many years she was a cook at the Conservation Club in Rushford. She was a past member of the Houghton Wesleyan Church and member of the Belfast United Methodist Church; a WMS member and a past matron of the Belfast OES Bartlett Chapter 195, and of the DAR of Belfast.
Surviving are two sons, Robert H. Keeler Jr. of Pleasanton, California and Jon G. Keeler of Cameron Park, California; three daughters, Mrs. William (Allergra) Lang of Wilmington, North Carolina, Mrs. George (Roberta) Mahony of Sacramento, California, and Mrs. Richard (Virginia) VanDusen of Belfast; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Wilson Crawford and Floyd Crawford; three sisters, Mrs. Archie (Lois) Davies, Mrs. Oscar (Vera) Allen and Mrs. Milton (Mildred) Luce.
There was no visitation. Friends attended the funeral and committal services on Monday, November 4, 1991, at 2 p.m. at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Belfast, with the Rev. Robert E. Marshall, pastor of the Belfast Free Methodist Church, officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Belfast.
Memorials may be made to the Belfast Rescue Squad.
