Came to the Cherokee Nation after it's opening & taught there in the public schools for a time.When the Cherokee & Arapahoe territory was opened for settlement on April 19, 1892 he made the run & staked his claim near Okeene. He lived on this land until his death at the age of 91.
His marraige to Edna Littrell in 1893 was the first to be recorded in Blaine CO, Oklahoma. For their honeymoon they drove to the border of the opening of the Cherokee Strip and watched the rush for homes in that section.
He was engaged in farming and cattle raising, and a staunch Democrat, serving for 30 yrs on the election board, and was also on the board of education in his district. He was the last person alive in the county who made the 1892 land race.

Funeral services for William H Hendricks, 91, who died of a heart attack at his home near Okeene Wednesday of last week, were held Friday, August 21, at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church. Reverand Don Heath officiated with music by Mrs. N.E. Helton and Mrs Ella Weber, vocalists, and Mrs. J.E. Gernert at the organ. Burial followed at the Roselawn Cemetery with Keller and Landes funeral home in charge of arrangemnets. Pall bearers were John Hendricks, Francis Pavlu, John Raitano, Elmer O'Brate, Merrill O'Brate, and Bill O'Brate
