Wellsville - Charles Sumner Allen Jr., 83, of 2376 River Road, Wellsville died Tuesday (August 27, 2002) at the home of his daughter in Belmont.

He was born November 24, 1918, in Wellsville, a son of Charles W. Allen and Ruth (Baldwin) Allen.

On April 3, 1936 he married Elma L. Ritter, in Wellsville, who predeceased him on March 23, 1986.

He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army 304th Infantry in an anti-tank company.

He had been employed as a machinist with the C.E. Air Preheater Company beginning in 1938 and retiring in January of 1979. He was a former member of the Morrison-Hayes Post 702 American Legion, in Wellsville, and was a member of the Wellsville Rod and Gun Club. He was a current member of the Frank B. Church Post 2530 V.F.W. in Wellsville.

Surviving are one son, Gary C. Allen of Irvine, Calif., one daughter Suzann Rehler of Belmont, four grandchildren Denise Fanton and Danielle Rehler both of Belmont, Holly (Allen) Perkins of Wellsville and Shane Allen of Wellsville, two great grandchildren Brittany Fanton and Cory Fanton.

He was predeceased by daughter, Sandra and a special friend Reva Main.

Friends are invited to call from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home, Inc., Wellsville where a funeral will follow visitation at 2 p.m. Friday. The Reverend Ralph Eastlack will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

Memorials suggestions are for Home Care and Hospice.
