He was born on Mackinac Island February 28, 1933, to Joseph and Ruby (nee Perault) Andress.
Mr. Andress attended the Indian Dormitory School on Mackinac and also Holy Childhood in Harbor Springs. He worked since he was 14, leaving school after his father died. He was a dray driver for Carriage Tours, and a taxi driver. He worked for the State of Michigan as a carriage driver, often driving the governor of Michigan. He worked for James Francis Construction on Mackinac Island. He then moved to Mackinaw City, where he and his wife worked for Downings Restaurant for several years, and moved to St. Ignace, where Mr. Andress worked for the City of St. Ignace for five years. For the past 16 years, he has been a ticket seller for Star Line Mackinac Island Ferry on North State Street.
He married Mary Cadotte March 2, 1957, on Mackinac Island.
Mr. Andress was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, joining the U.S. Army and also serving a short stint with the Marine Corps. He was an active member of the Mackinac Island American Legion and a top seller of Poppies for Veterans. He was an elder with the Sault Tribe Chippewa Indians. He was also a longtime member of Ste. Anne's Catholic Church on Mackinac Island.
His wife died August 22, 2005. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Leslie "Butch," and a sister, Barbara Chambers.
