Herman August Birr was born in Promeran/Pommerin, Germany to Carl Louis Birr and Johanna (Joanne) Weizig. They immigrated when he was 9. His siblings were Oscar, Carl, Mary, Augusta, Bertha and Eliza. Herman married Hulda Clara Meyer, also a German immigrant, in Oct 1902. They farmed in Sterling Twp, Blue Earth Co., MN and had four children: Laura, Oscar, William and Edwin. Herman became ill and sought treatment at the Mayo Clinic, but eventually died at a sanatorium in Mpls. Hulda and their children kept the farm and it later was taken over by Edwin.
