John was less than 1 year old when the family took the flatboat down the Ohio River to become pioneers in Hardin County, IL. Pioneer life was hard in the rugged wilderness, as John saw 5 of his siblings die before reaching adulthood and lost his brother Freeling at the age of 18.
John not only survived, but thrived under these conditions. He married the former Sarah L. Warford and had 6 children; 3 still surviving.
His remains were buried in McPherson - Love Cemetery, next to his deceased children. Our sympathy goes out to his widow and his young children.
