GALLAGHER, Rev. Fr. Philip Patrick III – of Lansing and Flint, age 67, passed away June 23, 2014 at Hospice Home of Mid Michigan. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Friday, June 27, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 404 N. Dayton St., Davison; Bishop Earl Boyea celebrant. Burial will be in St. John Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-3 and 5-8 PM Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the Mass on Friday. A Rosary will be prayed under the auspices of the Knights of Columbus #14031 at 6:30 PM Thursday followed by a Scripture Service at 7 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Propagation of Faith for Fiji Missions or St. Michaels Breakfast Program.

Fr. Philip was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 14, 1947, son of the late Philip and Viola (Collins) Gallagher II. He graduated from West Catholic Marist Prep in Philadelphia, PA and Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Fr. Philip did his post-graduate work at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY and the University of Detroit. He was ordained into the Priesthood on October 14, 1978 at St. Mary Cathedral in Lansing. Fr. Philip was appointed Deacon at St. Therese in Lansing from 1978 -1979 and Assistant Pastor at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Davison from 1979 - 1981, St. Francis of Assisi, Ann Arbor from 1981-1983, teaching in Pacific Regional Seminary in Suva and Fiji from 1983-1985 and then St. John the Evangelist, Jackson from 1985-1986. He was appointed Pastor at St. Leo the Great in Flint from 1986-1991 and Most Holy Trinity in Fowler from 1991-1997. He served at St. Francis Retreat Center in Dewitt from 1997-2000. He was Director of Propagation of Faith at the Diocese of Lansing for several years. Fr. Philip was Chaplain at Luke M. Powers High School, Flint in 2000 and Sacramental Minister at St. Mark in Goodrich from 2001-2002. He then went to St. Michael and Sacred Heart in Flint from 2002-2008. Fr. Philip was given Senior Priest Status on June 25, 2008.
