William attended a neighborhood school when he was 12 yrs of age, and in 1837 went to the Coweta Mission, where he remained one season, after which he commenced assisting his father in agriculture, until he married on 8 Jan 1848 (1) Eliza Island, (c1820-1862), daughter of John Island, by whom he had 6 children: Sarah (buried at this cemetery) who married Samuel Houston Keys (Cherokee); Samuel C., Lucy Ann, Mary Lou, Solomon, and Ellen McIntosh.
William married (2) Elizabeth Letitia "Bettie" Bertholf (buried at this cem.); they had 3 children: two of which are: Nossie (1870-71) (buried at this cemetery); and Thomas Fred (1867-1946) (Buried at Greenlawn Cem., Checotah, OK). William married in 1881, (3) Martha "Millie" Brown (widow of Tom Grayson); they had one child: Ellena "Lena" E. McIntosh (1881-1930).
William held the following offices: preacher and missionary; and Soldier (fought in the Civil War, CSA) for one year; appointed Dist. Judge of the North Fort Dist., IT; in 1887, he was elected a member of the House of Warriors which he held until 1891.
William was about 5'9" tall, and weighed 140 lbs.; and would have been taken for a white man; recognized as the father of the chase among his people for killing more deer all over the IT.
