When Lola was sick in the hospital, Dave would come in every day and visit her. He would bring her pencils and paper to draw with (which fostered an interest in art that Lola would follow the rest of her life), tell her stories, and play games with her.
Dave and Lizzie lived on 3759 Second Street in Salt Lake City, and his nephew Archie Butterfield lived just down the street. During Prohibition Dave and Archie used to go out to the local speakeasy and cause all kinds of mischief, which Lizzie did not approve of, especially when they took Lola along with them.
Dave was very tall, around 6'4, had red hair, and almost always wore overalls (except when Lizzie made him wear something nicer). He did not have a middle name, and did odd jobs as a sheep farmer as well as working at a smelter in Salt Lake City.
