Architect. Born to the U.S. minister to Guatemala, Mizner and his brother Wilson, a Hollywood playwright, traveled around the world at an early age. Without any formal training, he began his career in San Francisco. Successful, he then moved to New York. At 46, Mizner decided to move to Palm Beach. There, he introduced the Spanish revival architecture. His first commissioned house, El Mirasol, built for Philadelphia financier Edward Stotesbury, had 37 rooms, a half-dozen patios, an illuminated pool and a 40-car underground garage. Mizner successfully tranformed Boca Raton from a small town into an international luxury resort. He died at 61 of a heart attack.
