Frances was the eldest child of Earl R. and Fannie Lester Alderson. In 1929, when she was a student, she wed first Walter George Becker, who deflated tires for a tire manufacturer. A few months later they were recorded living together in the 1930 census and Walter was a baker at a bakery. There is no known Issue from the union and it is unknown how their union ended. Sometime between 1930 and 1935 she wed second Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff, Elmer Dan Benton. In the 1940 census they reported they lived at the same address as they did in 1940. Frances and Elmer had one son, who died in infancy, and two daughters, the elder born in 1935.
