"The otherwise genial face of Mr. Fernando Mella, one of the proprietors of the National hotel, is clouded with deep sorrow today. His wife Mrs. Mary Mella, aged 34 years, died yesterday afternoon at their home, No. 312, Seneca street, of consumption.
She had been in bed only about two weeks, but had been an invalid for several years. She was a lady of kind disposition and was loved by a large circle of friends.
She leaves, beside the bereaved husband two children, boys, aged respectively 7 and 4 years. The deceased was born in Leavenworth, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Zapp, natives of Germany.
Her mother died several years ago of consumption. Her father is a veteran of the late war and is now a member of the Soldier's Home.
The deceased was married to Mr. Mella, March 25, 1885. She leaves one brother, Charles, who is employed at Peter Everhardy's, and two sisters Misses Katie and Ida.
Mr. Mella has the sympathy of a very wide range of acquaintance in his sorrow. If possible the funeral will not take place until next Sunday."
