He was born Sept. 16, 1927, in Noble County, son of the late Myron and Josie (Clark) Bates.
Mr. Bates was a graduate of West Lafayette High School, and was retired from Jones Metal Products Co., West Lafayette, where he was employed for 46 years.
He is survived by his wife, whom he married in July 1949, two sons and a daughter, four grandchildren, and a sister.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 P.M. Monday at Given-Dawson Funeral Home, West Lafayette, where services will be held at 11 A.M. Tuesday with the Rev. Wayne Harman officiating.
Burial will follow in Fairfield Cemetery.
