Over the course of his years of work, first with Henry Dillion and then with Angelica Corporation, he held many positions and belonged to many organizations. He advanced from sewing machine mechanic to management, including plant manager, and regional manager. This lastest promotion required traveling in three other states. He retired after 42 years of service but worked part-time with the contractors for two more years.
No matter where he lived, his desire to serve led him to become involved in his community. In Wayne County, he served as President of Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, the Lion's Club. In Savannah, he was an elder in the Presbyterian Church, an officer for Woodmen of the World, involved in The Scottish Rite and Al Chymia Shriners and serving over fifty years as a Mason. He held many other positions to numerous to mention.
