He married Ellen Bairstow (1894-1980) on 4 November 1911 in Sanford, Maine. She was a daughter of Simeon Bairstow and Louisa Pellitt.
Louise Grace Ashworth was their only child.
He and his mother are memorialized on his uncle Edmund Pilling's headstone.
